Feb. 13, 2019, New York City, New York – The Cannabis World Congress & Business Exposition (CWCBExpo) encourages readers to learn about the legislative climate surrounding cannabis and what to expect during 2019. CWCBExpo will also hold its next marijuana business conference in New York City from May 29 through June 1, 2019.
There is much to look forward to in terms of the legislative changes that are likely to affect the cannabis industry across the U.S.
- Legal marijuana lounges. The expansion of marijuana lounges will likely continue through 2019, though not every state across the U.S will see them. California has seen sustained growth in this sector of the industry and some entrepreneurs in Michigan are pushing for them, too. In New Jersey, the push for legalization includes these types of lounges but that effort still faces legislative hurdles and the governor’s signature.
- Smoke-friendly social spaces. Many of the lounges that are likely to open won’t be able to allow patrons to smoke marijuana. However, spaces devoted to smoking the product are probably around the corner. Unlike spas and bakeries where cannabis will be infused into edibles, products, and beauty treatments when smoke-friendly spaces are opened, customers will be able to smoke marijuana in those spaces.
- Recreational marijuana use. California began allowing the sale of recreational marijuana in January of 2018 and Massachusetts made similar moves by the tail end of the same year. As we enter 2019, all eyes are on New Jersey and New York as the two states make similar pushes toward the same end. This would be a much-discussed topic at the upcoming CWCBExpo marijuana business conference. Some media reports also indicate that New Jersey could enact a five-person panel to oversee business ventures, which would be similar to what Massachusetts has done.
- Newcomers Continue: A total of 26 Pennsylvania lawmakers in early February 2019 pitched a bill that would legalize marijuana for adults and expunge criminal records of those who had been previously convicted. Gov. Tom Wolf has recently said that his state must “be open to considering the move,” according to recent reports.
