Mr. Hugh O’Beirne

Hugh O’Beirne has served as President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Cannabis Industry Association since November, 2017, and has been a trustee since its inception. A resident of Princeton, NJ and an attorney, Hugh has been involved in cannabis reform advocacy since the late 1980s. He has been an investor in the cannabis industry on the east coast since 2016.

Hugh has 10 years of executive experience in the real estate and financial services industries. Prior to serving as NJCIA President, Hugh was a consultant to national and international private equity and asset management firms. He has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer for Chambers Street Properties, an NYSE publicly traded REIT, through its merger with Gramercy Property Trust in December of 2015. Prior to his role with Chambers Street, Mr. O’Beirne served as product General Counsel for CB Richard Ellis Realty Trust, a non-traded REIT and predecessor company to Chambers Street Properties, and Senior Counsel to its then external manager, CBRE Global Investors. Before joining CBRE in 2007, he was a senior associate at Alston + Bird’s REIT and non-traded product practice, and prior to that, a Corporate Securities and Market Regulatory associate in the NY office of Sidley Austin from 2000-2005.

Mr. O’Beirne earned a B.A. from Merrimack College, an M.A. from Boston College, and a J.D. from Vanderbilt University.
