Jim served as director of communications for Yes on 4, the successful 2016 marijuana legalization ballot initiative in Massachusetts. He made dozens of TV and radio appearances and was the official debate designee for the campaign, squaring off against many opponents including state representatives and senators, district attorneys and police chiefs. Jim has held top communication positions in state government and the private sector and has worked on dozens of community and media campaigns at the local, state and national level. He served as director of communications for the Suffolk District Attorney in the 1990s and became press secretary for the Massachusetts Governor’s Office immediately following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Jim, who holds a master’s degree in communications from Northeastern University, started his career as a reporter for the Patriot Ledger in Quincy. He went from the Ledger to the Boston Business Journal, where he covered health care, government and higher education.
